Receive God's Warm Love Through Reflection

The Christmas spirit

on December 5, 2012

“Christmas is a day of meaning and traditions, a special day spent in the warm circle of family and friends.” -Margaret Thatcher

“Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.” -Calvin Coolidge

“My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?” -Bob Hope

As we get into the spirit of the holidays and draw closer to Christmas day, may we remember the importance of the season. Christmas isn’t about gifts, but about the joy in giving, about spending time with family and loved ones, about giving thanks to God, and about dwelling on the beauty of Christ. Christmas should be a time to slow down and reflect on the beauty of life and the people around us.

While we are more prone this month to donate, to give Salvation Army gifts, to attend outings with family and friends, to be more mindful of our generosity and compassion, we should apply this to every day and every season. God loves us so much he offers us Jesus, offers us forgiveness and love. May we celebrate and reflect this season, but also remember to constantly love and sacrifice, to constantly give and forgive every day of the year.
