Receive God's Warm Love Through Reflection

John the Baptist

on May 28, 2013

We have been watching The Bible tv series–a good depiction of important biblical events.

One thing that came to our minds when we watched the episode of Jesus’ birth up until right before He started His ministry was about John the Baptist. Why wasn’t John the Baptist a disciple of Christ? He seems like the first devoted follower and believer. He was a passionate preacher, speaking words of truth to many. In fact, he had many disciples who followed him.

After doing some online research, I found out why John wasn’t a disciple. John was considered a prophet. He was before Jesus’ ministry and prepared the way of the Lord.  When Jesus started His ministry, John’s mission to prepare for Him was still going strong. God still required John to prepare people for Jesus up until John’s execution; therefore, John didn’t follow Jesus, but continued to go into new towns and preach.

“A voice of one calling: ‘In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.’” -Isaiah 40:3

“‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’” -John 3:27

“‘He must become greater; I must become less.’” -John 3:30
