Strive for excellence

on October 13, 2013

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men” -Colossians 3:23

“Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings…” -Proverbs 22:29

I love listening to Joel Osteen’s sermons in the audio book ‘Good, Better, Blessed’. Joel reminds us that we need to always strive for a life of excellence. Go above and beyond, work as if you are working for the Lord, and set a good example for others.

Some of Joel’s positive words:

“God wants us to be an example of His goodness….When you wear your blessings well, giving God all the credit, talking about His goodness, thanking Him for what He has done, that’s what really brings honor to our God.”

“People of excellence go the extra mile to do what’s right.”

“Scripture is clear, when we sharpen our skills, when we work with a spirit of excellence, we will stand before great men…”

“Whatever we do, we should do it to the best of our ability and set the standard. Remember, you are ultimately working for the Lord. He’s the one who put those talents and abilities in you. You are a steward of the gifts He’s given. Other people may show up late. They may complain. They may cut corners. But don’t sink down to their level — you are working for Almighty God. You are called to excellence!

I encourage you today, stay determined. Stay focused. Whether you’re a waitress, a truck driver, an architect, a police officer or a CEO, do it to the best of your ability. God is the one who brings promotion. When you set the standard, He will raise you up and pour out His blessing all the days of your life.”

“Father, today I choose a path of excellence. Thank You for the gifts and talents You’ve given me. Help me to see the areas where I can rise higher. Help me to recognize that the work I do is for you. I desire to serve diligently with an attitude of excellence so that I can bring You glory in everything that I do in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
