“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” -Psalm 119:105
“The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.” -Isaiah 60:19
“But be assured today that the Lord your God is the one who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire. He will destroy them; He will subdue them before you.” -Deuteronomy 9:3
God is our everlasting light! He can bring warmth and love to any place and any heart that needs it. God can wipe down the evil, the coldness in our hearts. He is most importantly focused on love and light. He calls us every day to follow Him and do good.
We must remember, though, the strength of His fire and light; He has so much power to do anything.
NIV Devotions for Women says this about fire:
“Fire symbolizes God’s presence and power. God spoke to Moses out of a burning bush and guided the Israelites with a pillar of fire. In this verse (Deuteronomy) He promises to go before them like a devouring fire, judging the nations that defy Him.
Fire can be either helpful or harmful. Contained, it provides light, warmth and fuel. Uncontained, it devours everything in its path. One way or another, God will be a fire in your life. If you defy Him, He will burn with justice. If you serve Him, He will illuminate the path before you.”
So today, thank God for His everlasting light and follow His lovely path.
