Achieving success

on April 2, 2014

“He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much… who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who has left the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul…” – Mrs A.J. Stanley, found in Frances Slanger’s chapbook

This quote came from American Nightingale by Bob Welch, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I love learning about people that go beyond to help those in need and who are heroic and courageous. Frances Slanger was one of those people who achieved great success through her service as an Army nurse in an Normandy hospital in WWII.

Frances noted in her journal what it means to have success. She wanted success, not for herself, but for the success of those around her and those that needed her; for the betterment of the world.

What’s your definition for success?

Below are some points in relation to success, that I think are important to have:

  • having love and compassion for others
  • having joy despite struggle
  • leaving the world in a better place than before
  • appreciating the blessings in your life
  • striving for peace
  • raising your standards

I thought this article was worth sharing: How do you measure success, by Pastor Brad Taylor, who discussed the parable in Matthew 14:25-29 to help define success.
