Easter – Hope for Everyday

on April 5, 2015

Easter isn’t just a once a year celebration. The world celebrates Easter day in and day out…

How? Easter represents hope, new life, new beginnings, and forgiveness. Easter reminds us that Jesus died and then rose to dwell among us ALWAYS.

We see the meaning of Easter in the little things throughout the world everyday:

*That dad that still takes care of his son, even when his son is struggling with drugs —that dad believes in his son, has hope, and still loves him.

*That businessman who is too busy to attend church, but strolls everyday downtown and sees a beggar and gives him his breakfast —that man has goodness, love, and Jesus in his heart, even if he doesn’t know it.

*That criminal in the Bible who asks Jesus to be remembered in His kingdom, even when he knows he deserves to be hung for his sins (Luke 23:40-43) —that criminal has hope and longs for forgiveness and new life.

*The birds and flowers that appear after the dead winter passes —the earth and all of God’s creation are transitioning to a new beginning of beauty, warm, and life.

Remember that God wants us to experience the joys of Easter everyday. He is here for us and loves us.

Mary Magdalene experiences firsthand Jesus’ message of hope and God dwelling among us. She at first didn’t recognize Jesus when he approaches her in the garden.

Jesus is teaching her a truth that we must remember today – that God is always present, even when He is invisible to us. Our Lord is close to us always.

Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. They asked her, ‘Woman, why are you crying?’ ‘They have taken my Lord away,’ she said, ‘and I don’t know where they have put him.’ At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. He asked her, ‘Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?’ Thinking he was the gardener, she said, ‘Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Mary.’ She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).” -John 20:11-16

Note that Jesus asks “Who are you looking for”, not “What“. Mary was looking for a dead body, a something. Jesus tells her she needs to look deeper, for a someone.

The Lord is the answer to our deepest needs, never anything else.

Celebrate! Jesus lives today and always!

May you all recognize the Easter hope around you and feel God’s presence with you every day.

Happy Easter!
