Receive God's Warm Love Through Reflection

Peace in my mind & soul

My “resolution” this year is to focus on peace. I hope to have peace in my heart and mind. To live in this moment of my life in peace. Peace to remain calm when I am frustrated or tired, peace when I am out in the world interacting with others, peace with my family and friends. And I will pray for peace, for countries in war and for our country at the start of a new presidential term.

Jason Mraz has a song, Live in the Moment, and what great lyrics to reflect on. We shared this song back in 2015. Here is a piece of the song lyrics that particularly moved me. Have peace in your mind and heart for whatever you are experiencing that moment. Live life in this moment now!

I will not waste my days
Making up all kinds of ways
To worry about all the things
That will not happen to me

So I just let go of what I know I don’t know
And I know I’ll only do this by
Living in the moment
Living our life
Easy and breezy
With peace in my mind
With peace in my heart
Peace in my soul
Wherever I’m going, I’m already home
Living in the moment

Song: Scars To Your Beautiful

Alessia Cara’s song, Scars To Your Beautiful, is an inspiring hope for each of us to embrace our own beauty. We are stars, we are beautiful!

She just wants to be beautiful
She goes unnoticed, she knows no limits,
She craves attention, she praises an image,
She prays to be sculpted by the sculptor
Oh she don’t see the light that’s shining
Deeper than the eyes can find it
Maybe we have made her blind
So she tries to cover up her pain, and cut her woes away
‘Cause covergirls don’t cry after their face is made

Chorus:
But there’s a hope that’s waiting for you in the dark
You should know you’re beautiful just the way you are
And you don’t have to change a thing
The world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful
Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh
And you don’t have to change a thing
The world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful

She has dreams to be an envy, so she’s starving
You know, “Covergirls eat nothing.”
She says, “Beauty is pain and there’s beauty in everything.”
“What’s a little bit of hunger?”
“I could go a little while longer,” she fades away
She don’t see her perfect, she don’t understand she’s worth it
Or that beauty goes deeper than the surface
Ah oh, ah ah oh,
So to all the girls that’s hurting
Let me be your mirror, help you see a little bit clearer
The light that shines within

Chorus

No better you than the you that you are
No better life than the life we’re living
No better time for your shine, you’re a star
Oh, you’re beautiful, oh, you’re beautiful

Chorus

Song: We All Bleed The Same

A beautiful inspiring song, We All Bleed The Same is about being yourself and accepting one another. Everyone’s life is precious, and we should accept our differences and come together in unity and love!

“Nobody can be like you”

“Don’t compare yourself to no one because they can’t do what you’ve done”

“Let thine own self be true”

“Just be yourself, everybody else is taken”

“Don’t be afraid; all you need to do is come as you are”

“You just keep on loving you”

Song: Break Every Chain

Paxton Ingram, from this season’s The Voice, sung a powerful gospel song for his Top 11 performance, “Break Every Chain”. Simple lyrics, but strong lyrics! Jesus is our savior and with faith, He frees us from sin and suffering, giving us His full power.

Chorus:
There is power in the name of Jesus
to break every chain, break every chain, break every chain.

There’s an army rising up.
To break every chain, break every chain, break every chain.

Chorus

I hear the chains falling.

There is power in the name of Jesus
to break every chain, break every chain, break every chain.

Song: Hold On To The Rock

My husband is singing this song in the church choir – a soulful, powerful song about standing strong in God through the storms of your life.

Chorus:
Hold on to the rock of ages, hold on to the cornerstone.
Stand strong on the sure foundation, surrounded by the fortress strong.
When all the storms of life are raging, hold on to the rock.
You’ve got to… (repeat)

Solo:
You know that it doesn’t take a mighty earthquake to shake the ground you stand on.
Cause life is gonna change like a hurricane and blow all the plans you planned on.
Well the ground is gonna shake and the wind is gonna blow,
Who you gonna trust and where you gonna go?

Chorus repeat

Solo:
You know sometimes when life is easy, it’s so easy to keep the faith.
To be grateful for every blessing, when every blessing comes our way.
Cause when life shakes us to our very soul,
Who you gonna trust and where you gonna go?

Chorus repeat

Song: Stand In The Light

Immediately when I heard this song, I thought what beautiful lyrics!

With courage and pride, stand strong for who you are. Let everyone see how beautiful a person you really are, full of kindness and love. Open your arms wide and embrace yourself!

Stand in the light and be seen as we are

Didn’t I tell you I hear what you say?
Never look back as you’re walking away
Carry the music, the memories and keep them inside you
Laugh every day
Don’t stop those tears from falling down

Chorus:
This is who I am inside
This is who I am, I’m not going to hide
Cause the greatest risk we’ll ever take is by far
To stand in the light and be seen as we are
So stand in the light and be seen as we are

With courage and kindness hold onto your faith
You get what you give and its never too late
To reach for the branch and climb up leaving sadness behind you
Fight hard for love
We can never give enough

This is who I am inside
This is who I am, I’m not going to hide
Cause the greatest risk we’ll ever take is by far
To stand in the light and be seen as we are
So stand in the light and be seen as we are

Riding the storms that come raging towards us we dive
Holding our breath as we break through the surface
With arms open wide
With arms open wide

This is who I am inside
This is who I am, I’m not going to hide

Cause the greatest risk we’ll ever take is by far
To stand in the light and be seen as we are
So stand in the light and be seen as we are
(repeat)

Song: Abide With Me

Audrey Assad sings so beautiful and angelic in her song, Abide With Me. Call to God when you are suffering – ask Him to be with you and to give you strength to endure those sufferings. With God, you will triumph!

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

Song: Humble and Kind

I recently heard this cover of Tim McGraw’s song Humble and Kind, and I thought what beautiful lyrics! We should reflect on these words and make more of an effort to be genuinely kind and respectful.

You know there’s a light that glows by the front door
Don’t forget the key’s under the mat
Childhood stars shine, always stay humble and kind
Go to church ’cause your momma says to
Visit grandpa every chance that you can
It won’t be wasted time
Always stay humble and kind

Chorus:
Hold the door, say please, say thank you
Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie
I know you got mountains to climb but
Always stay humble and kind
When the dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride but
Always stay humble and kind

Don’t expect a free ride from no one
Don’t hold a grudge or a chip and here’s why
Bitterness keeps you from flyin’
Always stay humble and kind
Know the difference between sleeping with someone
And sleeping with someone you love
“I love you” ain’t no pick up line so
Always stay humble and kind

Chorus

When it’s hot, eat a root beer popsicle
Shut off the AC and roll the windows down
Let that summer sun shine
Always stay humble and kind
Don’t take for granted the love this life gives you
When you get where you’re goin
Don’t forget turn back around
And help the next one in line
Always stay humble and kind

Hymn: I Have Decided to Follow Jesus

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” – John 8:12

When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him. – Luke 5:11

Jesus is calling you to leave everything behind and follow Him. He is Your Light and Life. Even in loneliness, He call you to follow him. Even with suffering in your life, He calls you to follow Him. Even faced with “wordly” things, He calls you to follow Him instead. Your decision to follow Him will be your greatest decision!

I Have Decided To Follow Jesus

I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
no turning back, no turning back.

Though none go with me, I still will follow;
though none go with me, I still will follow;
though none go with me, I still will follow;
no turning back, no turning back.

My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
my cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
my cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
no turning back, no turning back.

The world behind me, the cross before me;
the world behind me, the cross before me;
the world behind me, the cross before me;
no turning back, no turning back.

Weekly Song: In The Garden

This hymn was written by Charles Austin Miles in 1912, and it’s still a beautiful song for worship.

I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses;
And the voice I hear,
falling on my ear,
The Son of God discloses.

CHORUS:
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody
that He have to me
Within my heart is ringing.

I’d stay in the garden with Him
Though the night around me be falling,
But He bids me go;
through the voice of woe,
His voice to me is calling.

Weekly Song: Mary Did You Know

Peter Hollens sings a beautiful version of Mary Did You Know! This is one of my favorite Christmas songs. So heartwarming and enchanting!

Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.

Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand?
Did you know that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God?

Mary did you know..
The blind will see. The deaf will hear. The dead will live again.
The lame will leap. The dumb will speak The praises of The Lamb.

Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your Baby Boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you’re holding is the Great, I Am.
